15. Cindy Muzzi — A Family Story
Our guest Cindy Muzzi is a native Memphian and has worked at the University of Memphis over the last 13 years as a Research Associate for the College of Education. After a healthy pregnancy, at 31 years old, she gave birth to Asher, who during labor and delivery suffered an HIE (hypoxic ischemic encephalopathy) event causing a severe brain injury. Asher's birth injury led the family to LeBonheur where they have been able to build and collaborate with a team of amazing doctors over the last eight years to help them on this journey of cerebral palsy, epilepsy, a feeding tube, and cortical visual impairment, just to name a few. Life is different than expected, but so much beauty has been brought into their lives raising a son with special needs.
