A Look Back with Lauren
We recently said a bitter-sweet goodbye to Spring 2021 intern, Lauren Martin. Lauren came to us from Rhodes with a strong work ethic and a desire to serve this community. She was first drawn to the Fund through the mission statement to serve ill children and their families with non-medical needs. Though she came to college with the intention of being a pediatrician, she quickly realized she wanted to serve children in a different way. The Fund was the perfect place for her to engage with a love of medicine while simultaneously discovering all the different ways people need assistance while in the hospital.
Working with FSF, Lauren realzied just how big the range of needs are for families with critically or chronically ill children. There are so many, often overloooked, ways to walk along aside a family struggling with illness. But Lauren found that the Forrest Spence Fund went further than this just this initial assistance. “Brittany takes the time to understand the situation and talk to each family individually.” Overall, the Fund “really cares for everyone going through the hardship of having a sick child and do their best to provide meaningful services.”
Lauren is going into her senior year at Rhodes College where she will earn a BA in Psychology. After graduating, she hopes to continue her work with children. Lauren “hopes to find a path dedicated to child advocacy, working with underprivileged kids to benefit them at both a field experience and policy level.”
As Lauren emabarks on these future endavours, her time at the Fund will continue to influence her life. She has learned how to communicate effectively with a team and build lasting professional relationships. We are excited to see where Lauren ends up and know she will be a gift to this world!
